Obituary of Jason Alexander MacKay

Please share a memory of Jason to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jason Alexander MacKay, 44 Dominion, N.S. It is with deep sadness we announce the unexpected passing of our son, Jason Alexander MacKay, 44, of Dominion, NS, in Calgary, AB, on April 16, 2024. Born in Glace Bay, NS, Jason attended MacDonald High School, then spent most of his adult life in Calgary where he was employed as a painter by trade. Jason will be remembered by many for his kindness and being a jack of all trades, he often used his handyman skills to lend a hand to others in need. Jason had a soft spot for less fortunate, stray animals, and would carry a pocket full of treats to feed those he happened by during his travels. He enjoyed fishing and swimming; sometimes doing both at the same time to satisfy his shell-fish cravings. Jason dreamed of living in the woods in a log cabin, close to the ocean, and watching beautiful sunsets. Jason had many childhood close friends from Dominion who hold many fun-filled, adventurous memories of the rambunctious teenager who they still reference by nickname, "Lanky." Jason had many friends in Calgary. He spent many years with his long-time co-worker/girlfriend, Charlene Gradishar-Miller of Calgary. Together, they enjoyed many good times and, unfortunately, some not so good. Either way, he always expressed his love for Charlene each time he spoke of her. She always held a special place in his heart. Jason sadly leaves behind his 21-year-old, heartbroken daughter, Bria Alexandria Perfect-MacKay of Grand Prairie, Alberta. Although distance and not so good life choices kept him away, Bria is Jason's only child and shining star. He cherished every picture and moment he had with her. He spoke so proudly of Bria and when he did, his eyes would light up and a smile would cover his face. Bria was always a huge part of his heart, and Jason lives on through her unwavering love. Jason is very recently predeceased by his younger brother/best friend, Jeffery Thomas MacKay, 39, Calgary, Alberta. Jason watched over his little brother until circumstances made that impossible during the last days of Jeffery's life. Jason, rather than fight the demons that took his brother, chose to join him in eternal peace. Jason is also predeceased by his Grandparents, John and Mary MacKay, Dominion; Annie May Cormier (Campbell), Dominion; Stepfather, Peter Christiansen, Gardiner Mines; Stepmother, Jane MacKay (Deruelle), Dominion; Uncle, Neil MacKay, Dominion; Aunts, Jane deWitte (MacKay), Dominion; Anne MacKay (Wells), Dominion, Tena Cormier, Calgary, and Donna Cormier (Frechette), Ontario, as well as several other family members. Jason is survived by his Dad, John MacKay, Dominion, and his Mom, Kim Cormier, Dominion; Grandparents, Mel and Mary Cormier, Halifax; Brothers, Donald (DJ) MacKay (Amanda) Dominion, Ricky Christiansen (Amanda), New Waterford, Peter Shannon Christiansen (Florance), Dominion, Eric Christiansen (Aleah), Gardiner Mines, Aaron Christiansen (Jillian) Gardiner Mines; One sister, Jaime MacKay (Justin), Calgary; Uncles, Michael MacKay (Sandy), Calgary, Earl MacKay (Shelly), Sydney, John Cormier, Sydney, Tom Cormier, Ontario; Aunt, Diane Tarso-MacKay (Wayne), Dominion, and many other family members. Cremation has been held at Simply Cremations & Funeral Specialists in Calgary. The date, time and place of Jason and Jeffery's Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. May they both now rest together in eternal peace.
